FactSheet on
the National Economic, Social, and Environmental Data Bank (NESE*DB)
The NESE*DB:
* is a comprehensive electronic source of information focusing on the United
States -- its economy, society, and environment.
* contains the complete text of many of the Federal Government's most popular
publications: The Economic Report of the President, Toxics in the Community,
Health United States, Digest of Educational Statistics, the U.S. Industrial
Outlook, and many more.
* is published on a convenient CD-ROM and comes complete with the same
easy-to-use software as the National Trade Data Bank. All you need is a
personal computer equipped with a CD-ROM reader.
* is the latest one-stop-source electronic information product from the
Economics and Statistics Administration.
NESE*DB -- the Federal Connection(tm)-- brings you a wealth of information
about the United States. The data bank provides a core set of valuable
information that is fundamental to the study of economic growth, education,
health issues, criminal justice, and the environment. Researchers, policy
analysts, marketers, business planners, students, and informed citizens will
find the answers to many of their key questions in the NESE*DB.
The NESE*DB uses the same Compact Disc-Read Only Memory (CD-ROM) as its sister
information product -- the National Trade Data Bank. Each disc also contains a
new and improved version of the Browse software which was designed to help
users with little knowledge of Federal data explore and access the entire data
bank. You can use the NESE*DB CD-ROM on any compatible PC with at least 640K
of memory, an ISO 9660 (standard) CD-ROM reader, and Microsoft CD-ROM
extensions (version 2.0 or higher.) The quarterly CD-ROM is self-contained and
requires no additional space on a hard drive. Browse software will optionally
use a color monitor (use EGA or VGA for the best quality and to display
graphics) and a mouse.
Discs are produced quarterly in the months of November, February, May and
August; annual subscriptions of $360 or $95 per single disc make the NESE*DB an
economical means of obtaining government information.
